I Love You

"What Love Is: Our shared mission here is to love.

But love that comes easily provides

few

learning opportunities.

On this planet, we must find a way to love

despite

hormones, peptides, neurotransmitters, and

all the hardwired reactions in the human body.

We must learn a love that sees through pain—

our own and others—a love that acts

with kindness even when our brains

are stoked with rage or fear,

screaming

that we should attack or run.

The question, of course, is how?
