WHERE DO YOU GO? What do you seek?

What did her husband know of fashion, son of a low-born leather merchant? Margery whirled on him, “I come from noble kindred and will wear clothes that uphold the honor of my family. Perhaps you should never have married me.”

...they worked quietly in the kitchen. But Margery couldn’t take his silence nor her guilt. So she did what she always did when her mind got too jumpy. She walked alone down to the shore of the North Sea, pensive, detaching the wimple draped below her chin from ear to ear that held the face of medieval women like chalices. It wasn’t the quiet murmur of the ocean Margery wanted. It was the thunder of crashing waves to blot out her conflicting feelings.

“Even when we think he is far away, Jesus is always near with his mercy and grace,” Margery said aloud as she walked.

From the book Skirting Heresy, the life and times of Margery Kempe by Elizabeth MacDonald.

Do you know what you seek?
