“Colère, why do you come when there is absolutely nothing I can do to change things? Why? Why do you appear when I am weak? You are not helpful! I don’t even like you and yet you are here uninvited trying to get close to me. You scare the dogs.”
“No, my friend. I don’t scare the dogs. They can’t see me.”
I tried to leave her in the kitchen, but she followed me to the chair saying unkind things as I poked at the dinner I had been looking forward to eating hours ago, now cold. I could’ve stopped Colère as she fed my attitude. I didn’t.
This morning as I was praying, I heard their voices. “Be careful who has access to your thoughts, to your heart, to your soul. Be careful. Choose those you hear carefully. You know how to control your thoughts, your reactions. How important in your world, how important to your peace and well-being are the daily distractions? How important are the stains of solvent cement that look like blood drops on your floor? You still have a floor. It’s not about comparison. It’s about you. You can choose to breathe, to let things pass through you. You can choose to believe that not the worst has happened. Or, you can rage. You can throw things even break them. What have you gained except a mess? Remember too, you can’t find the dustpan and you must sweep up the broken pieces to protect the dogs. It is your world Linda, your creation. You affect those around you with your vibration.”
“Make every effort
to keep the unity of the Spirit
through the bond of peace."
Ephesians 4:3 (NIV)
