January Twenty-Five

Dog hair creates a shadow, a bird shadow on my hall floor. I stop a moment to make sure. Mint green light shines from nebulizer on my desk, turns blue when it needs to charge. Why not red? Snow thrown from trees pock marks unblemished snow where my three can’t go. Dart board arrived yesterday. Anger management. Ring toss came too. Someone asked, “Are you in love?” I didn’t say they asked me. They did. Ask me. Vet told me blood work is not a priority. Said she’d call again when she returned from vacation, five days ago.

A page, a handout printed with green ink on green paper (1986 Maine Poison Control Center) listing Perilous Plants, fell out of a gardening book. Hydrangeas if ingested interfere with the body’s ability to use oxygen. Iris, Daffodil, Jimson Weed, Moonseed more, but not all toxic plants are listed. Lupine? Yes, even lupine – especially the seeds and pods. Don’t play with them. Have I ever seen a Moonseed? What a poem that could be.

Now my coffee’s cold. Maybe you are smiling. If not, the day is long. Drink from your cup.

“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”

1 John 4:16 (NIV)
