I Love You
A poem by Carolyn Riker from her book The Colors I Hear, Poems & Prose to Inspire Creativity
“Even when the sky feels dark, and you
might be alone, there will always be
nature. Nothing can take the sound of
the sweet earth away. Your footsteps
are held with each hesitation.
The veil of clouds is above, and your
heart will know how to love by the
essence that rings true and supports
you. This is how you resonate below
the noise and find like-hearted souls
in the valleys to hear the rivers in your
stories. This unseen current unites
you as kindly as a leaf grows, and the
clouds paint your islands.
Often it is a reverie that brings you
home and closer to something you
can’t deny. A pull, a hope, an existential
transparency, a dance with realness.
The fullness of solitude notices the
tiniest details with utmost respect
where you are seen and held.”
