I Love You

I can make myself crazy

I can make myself calm

Sometimes I complain

sometimes I laugh

to relieve the strain

It works for a short time

pushing things to the back

of my mind

There are days I don’t want

days of trivial things

a favorite glass that slipped from my grasp

dish soap that came open in a grocery bag

an email -- “your package may be delayed”

a tire that’s flat and triple A

“There’s no one in your area to help with that”

There are days I don’t want

I don't want to remember

days that changed my life

I can make myself crazy

I can make myself calm

Sometimes

Other times I am bewildered

My life seems a sea of rogue waves

coming from all directions

I dream of a flat sea

(that’s no sailor’s plea)

becalmed in the doldrums

where the horizon I can see
