I Love You

                                                     Odd: different from what is usual or expected; strange.

                                                    Extraordinary: very unusual or remarkable.

She was

shall I say

an “extraordinary”

or

an “odd” child?

She thought everyone

could see what she knew

when

it seemed she was reading

a story from blank pages

or imagining people

she barely knew

She told us things

that would happen

things that came true

Introverted, quiet

she didn’t want to

talk on the phone

even when threatened

with a spanking

for not doing as told

Her sister didn’t think

the extraordinary,

the odd child

belonged

She must be adopted

They didn’t get along

Her brother, her protector

introduced her to

the silence of nature

Often

they went to the woods

deeper and deeper until

civilization

could no longer

be heard
