I Love You
A computer is a device for processing, storing, and displaying information.
They learned to be seen and not heard.
They learned to dust furniture
so that it passed a white-glove test.
They learned the names of tools
and how to use them.
They learned to sing hymns
instead of screaming while doing chores
to cover up what they didn’t want to hear.
They learned to be ready before it was time to go.
They learned to stand still while their hair was combed.
They learned to trust God.
They learned by watching, by listening, by reading, by doing,
by not doing,
by running away and trying to forget.
They learned that they don’t forget.
THEN, some, a very few
stopped trying to be what everyone expected, or
what society programmed them to be.
