IN THE LIBRARY

I Love You

They gave me a beginner’s guide,

said I could construct the universe;

Oh, the lies we tell ourselves

concerning the spiritual in art -

the sacred power in a name

the secret of the rainbow.

They said no voice is ever wholly lost

writing the natural way,

in the midst of winter.

Living at the edge of life

after the perfect storm,

a peaceful transition

archetype to zeitgeist.

I think they gave me

the dictionary of misinformation.

They said courage my love,

take this handbook for mortals,

study the secret world of drawings,

learn the soul’s code.

Read letters from the cosmos.

But I still hear the primal scream.

I can’t lift the taboo

of the troubled dream of life.
