All dogs have a job. My three have the same job – being where I am. I had the hiccups yesterday, which concerned the puppy. He sat in front of me cocking his head trying to figure out if I was playing or in distress. The only time they are "off duty" is at nap time or bedtime when they can totally relax in a crate of their own.
I love you.

ART: "Seeking Shelter" 2023
The puppy watches me type,
lays his heavy head in the crook of my arm,
drools on my shirt.
He looks at the dog under my desk.
“I want a hiding place close to you.
I want to be sheltered and protected.”
Then he walks to the closet
to see if there is any place there for him.
Finding no sheltered place,
he lies down on the rug.
Next to my chair for a moment,
at the first noise, he is up, pacing.
